Is clean drinking water a basic human right, or a privilege?

WaterAfrica partners with the World Affairs Council of Oregon to present two noted experts on global water issues: Congressman Earl Blumenauer and Kelle Louaillier. They will answer questions we often hear from our supporters – what is our government doing to help those who don’t have clean water, and is clean water a basic human right or a privilege?

The Congressman will provide information regarding his bipartisan legislation, “Water for the World Act of 2012.”  The act enhances U.S. foreign assistance in water and sanitation by strengthening partnerships and by improving transparency and accountability.

Kelle Louaillier, Executive Director of Corporate Accountability International (CAI), has led her group’s campaign to “Shut the Spigot on Private Water.”  By challenging corporate control of water, CAI is focused on the basic human right to water as a springboard for alleviating poverty.

Diane Savage will also briefly speak about her first-hand experience seeing water access issues in Zambia.

There will be an opportunity for questions following the presentation.
